William 'Smokey' Robinson schrijft tientallen hits voor diverse Motown-artiesten en dus ook voor zijn eigen zanggezelschap The Miracles. Na veel gezamenlijke hitnoteringen gaat Smokey solo in 1972 en daarna hebben band en zanger afzonderlijk allebei succes. William is in de jaren tachtig nog een paar jaar vice-president van Motown Records en krijgt daarnaast een Living Legends grammy award.
